Outside of the APA and BECTU agreements here is how it works:

Basic Working Day:

The Basic Working Day includes 11 hours in total (10 working hours and 1 hour for lunch). You will need to notify me in advance (48h) of the place and time. 

Definitions: BDR for Basic Day rate; BHR for Basic Hourly Rate, OT for Over-Time.​

It s is your responsibility to question what you do not understand. You understand that asking me for lighting ideas or kit list you are requesting my services AND are willing to pay me as diescribed in this page.

 Shooting days

 Basic Working Day With Call Time Between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. (Standard Call)

If your call time is between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m., this is considered as a standard call. The basic working day starts at the call time and includes 11 hours in total, 10 working hours and one hour for lunch. Overtime applies after 11 hours. You will need to notify me in advance (48h) of the place and time. 

Basic Working Day With Call Time Before 5 a.m. (Night Call AKA Night Shoot)

If the call time is before 5 a.m., this call is considered as a night call and night shoot rule applies; I should be paid at double basic hourly rate for every hour worked; from call time to wrap, with a minimum call of ten hours. You will need to notify me in advance (48h) of the place and time.

If night shoot call time is on Saturday, Monday-Friday night shoot rule applies throughout the engagement even though the engagement goes into Sunday. If the night shoot call time is on Sunday, Monday-Friday night shoot rule applies throughout the engagement; I should be paid be paid double my basic hourly rate for all hours worked with a minimum of ten hours throughout the engagement.

Basic Working Day With Call Time Between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. (Early Call) If your call time is between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m., my basic work day starts at the call time and I should be paid at overtime rate for hours worked between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. The rest of the day will be charged as basic working day (calculated from a call time). Early call rule applies on all days throughout a week, Monday to Sunday. Overtime will start 11 hours after a call time. You will need to notify me in advance (48h) of the place and time. 

Basic Working Day With Call Time Between 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Late Call) If your call time is between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., this is considered as a late call. No matter when the call time is being given, the basic working day starts at 11 a.m. and includes 11 hours in total - 10 working hours and one hour for lunch. Overtime applies after 11 hours. You will need to notify me in advance (48h) of the place and time.

Basic Working Day With Call Time Between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m. (Night Call AKA Night Shoot) All work commencing between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m. is considered as night work and I should be paid double my basic hourly rate for all hours worked with a minimum call of ten hours. Breaks apply the same way as on a standard day shoot (i.e. first and second break). No overtime or ‘triple time after midnight’ rate applies, the rate stays the same throughout the whole engagement; from call time to wrap. You will need to notify me in advance (48h) of the place and time. 

N.B. Going past 5am (next day) is not considered as a new day engagement, Work done after 5 a.m should be paid 3 (three) times basic hourly rate for all hours worked until the end of that day.

For night shoot with call time at or from 5 p.m. on Saturday we will pay you two times your basic hourly rate for all hours worked on that day with a minimum call of ten hours, the rate remains the same even though the engagement goes into Sunday. For night shoot with call time at or from 5 p.m. on Sunday I should be paid three times basic hourly rate for all hours worked on that day with a minimum call of ten hours.

 

 Continuous working day

Continuous Working Day is any day on which I work for a continuous period (no breaks) of 9 hours. The Continuous Working Day’s standard call time is between 7 a.m. the earliest and at 11 a.m. the latest. You will provide me with food and beverages at an appropriate time during the Continuous Working Day. Overtime will apply after 9 hours from the call time. You will need to notify me in advance (48h) of the place and time. After the nine hour continuous working day I am entitled to a 30 minute break. If not given the 30 mins break, I should be paid 30 mins at OT rate as compensation. There will be a further 30 minutes break after 12 1/2 hours from the call time (and the same rule will apply if that break is not given). These breaks can’t be delayed (i.e. if not given at appropriate time, then the missed break penalty is payable).

 Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday 

Work on Saturday will be charged 1.5 times BDR and OT will be charged at 1.5 time Saturday HR.

Work on Sunday and Bank Holiday will be charged 2x BDR OT will be charged at 1.5 time Sunday HR.

 

 Non shooting day and prep time

Non-Shooting Day is a working day on which shooting does not take place. The non-shooting working day shall be eight hours, charged at your basic hourly rate. Overtime will begin after 8 hours and will be charged at standard overtime rate. Non-shooting day is a rest day, a prep day, a recce day, a pre-light day, a construction (built) or strike day. See below the individual specifics: Rest Day is a non-shooting working day when you at production’s request remain on location, but filming is not taking place for some reason. I should be paid be paid a flat fee which is the basic daily rate, no overtime, penalties or meal compensations apply. This applies on any day of the week but Sundays.

Prep Day, Recce Day, Construction Day & Strike Day is a non-shooting working day which consists of 8 hours, charged at my basic hourly rate. Overtime will begin after 8 hours and will be charged at standard overtime rate. Pre-light Day is a non-shooting working day which consists of 8 hours + 1 hours for lunch, charged at your basic hourly rate. Overtime will begin after 9 hours and will be charged at standard overtime rate.

The non working day will be charged on base to base basis. In simple words if I travel each way 1h (one hour) to attend a meeting of X hours, I will charge X hours plus 2 hours of travel time. 

If the "day" exceeds 4h (four hours) "lunch" should be provided or will be charged £10.00. 

Prep time

Meetings, Zoom meetings, recce, lighting plans and the making of kit lists should be paid either as 4h (four hours) if finishing before noon or 8h (eight hours) of work on basic hourly rate.

Prep time on Sundays should be paid double. 

Prep time after 2100 should be paid double.

Travel day/ Travel​

Travel day should be paid a minimum of 4 hours

If working more that 1h from home travel time and expenses will be charged*. if you do not organize acceptable travel options yourself it is your responsability to ask for quote.

 For all the above day, 

Lunch should not be served more than 6h after call time.

I am in title to a second break of 30 minutes, paid, that should not come after 4 and 1/2 hour after the end of the first break.

Any work done during any of those two breaks will be charged the O.T rate (1.5x basic hourly rate)

For any work past 20:00 should be offered a hot dinner or £10.00 compensation will be charged.

if any of those breaks come late, I will charge a penalty of £10.00 for every 20 minutes delay.

Over time will be charged 1.5 x BHR on week days. On Saturdays and Sunday respectively 1.5 times Saturday and Sunday pro rata1.5 times 

​Over time after 0000 will be charge 3 times the worked day pro rata BHR (Basic hourly rate)

 

My Daily rates are as follow:

From Monday to Friday. 

£550.00 as gaffer

£700 as multi set gaffer (when sets are built and functioning at the same time)

£500.00 as rigging gaffer

£550.00 as stills gaffer.

£450.00 as best boy electric and

£400.00 as spark.

The Daily rates are based on 10+1 day. Ten hours of paid work, one hour lunch.

The basic hourly rate (BHR) is a tenth of the daily rate. Over time rate (OT) is to be paid 1.5x BHR if BHR is £50.00, OT equals £75.00.

 

Sunday rates are double the above rates.

£1100.00 as gaffer

£1400 as multi set gaffer (when sets are built and functioning at the same time)

£1000.00 as rigging gaffer

£1100.00 as stills gaffer

£900.00 as best boy electric

£800.00 as spark

Bank Holiday rates are double the above rates.

£1000.00 as gaffer

£1200 as multi set gaffer (when sets are built and functioning at the same time)

£1100.00 as rigging gaffer

£1100.00 as stills gaffer

£900.00 as best boy electric

£800.00 as spark

 For anything lower than that, 

the Daily rates will be charged as full Day rate on which a discount is applied. Discount is void when invoice is overdue.

 Equipment rental.

All booking includes the Basic electrician kit.

   

 BTS

I am a gaffer, not an unpaid SA, not an unpaid online teacher.

As a basis I do not give you my contentment to publish any sort of additional content showing my equipment, my technics or myself. 

​ Payment

All invoices need to be paid within 7 days of the date the invoice is produced and sent.

It is your responsibility to provide accurate information before I invoice you. Any amendment will be charged £10.00.

Any registration to tierce party payment system will be charged 40.00 and  should be agreed agreed prior to the job. 

Any new supplier registration will be charged £40.00 and  should be agreed agreed prior to the job.

Pencil, confirmations, and cancellation.

Any pencil will be considered as booking from the time you ask me to provide a kit list or contact crew in order to work on your project.

Cancellations are free if done +72h of agreed working day under that I will charge you from 48h to 72h 50% of the daily rate.

from 24h to 48h 75% of the daily rate and 100% of the rate if cancellation is done any later than that.

All the work done prior to the cancellation should be paid in full without discount.

 

COVID 19

Being tested is not yet an obligation but I am happy to help you keeping everyone safe, with some conditions.

You will have to pay for the test and pay me on a non-shooting day basis if I am required to be tested before the filming day.

If the test come back positive cancellation fee may occur.
